Pastor's Sunday Reflection

April 29, 2012

The Year of Faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI, is approaching in several months (October 11th, 2012 to November 24th, 2013),

Which is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and will end November 24, 2013, the feast of Christ the King. The World Synod of Bishops will also be meeting in Rome this October to discuss,

"The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith."

Our lives have become quite complex during this period of globalization , rapid scientific and technological discoveries, instant access to what is happening in the far corners of the world through social media. At times we may hesitate to get involved in evangelization because we assume that it will require something complex and difficult—like becoming a doctor of divinity or mastering complex technology. The Book of Micah in the Old Testament provides a helpful clue about how simple it can be to evangelize, especially by the faithful witness of our lives.

Micah reminds the people of what is necessary:

Only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8.

If we do what is right and just, love goodness, and walk humbly with our God, we will be proclaiming the truth of the gospel by the witness of our lives.

The pope explained his intention in Porta Fidei ("The Door of Faith"), an apostolic letter released Oct. 17, 2011. Pope Benedict XVI observed.

"It often happens that Christians are more concerned for the social, cultural and political consequences of their commitment, continuing to think of the faith as a self-evident presupposition for life in society."
